Happy Memorial Day! For me, Memorial Day officially marks the start of summer. Technically summer begins June 21 but Memorial Day is when all the pools open and all the fun in the sun begins! I’m currently traveling in South Korea with my sister and her fam for the week, be sure to keep on Instagram. Today I’m sharing my top 5 closet essentials for summer! These items are on constant heavy rotation in my closet during the warmer months.
1. WHITE DENIM
I don’t believe in the silly rule of no white after labor day – white denim can be worn year round! But I do believe that white denim is ESSENTIAL for summer! I have a few different styles of white jeans – skinny, boyfriend, and cropped. A classic pair of white jeans can be styled numerous ways! A few of my favorite ways to style mine are with a colorful bright top and sandals or with a stripe tee and some wedges!
2. STRAW BAG
Call it what you want – straw, rattan, wood, natural – these bags are a summer staple! They come in an array of styles from small, cross body, tote, and even round ones. My first straw bag purchase was the Cult Gaia Ark bag. It’s a classic and I’m still obsessed with it. It comes in various sizes and colors now. I opted for the small in natural. To my surprise it is a very spacious bag and you can fit a lot in there. I’m currently loving this round cross-body bag and this little bucket bag.
3. NEUTRAL SANDALS
Summer is all about sandals! I personally love flat flip flop sandals and wedges. My go to summer sandal is the Tory Burch Miller flip flops. They are super comfortable and easy to just throw on and head out the door. I also love wearing wedges in the summer! The most comfortable pair of wedges I own are these Marc Fisher ones! This will be my third summer wearing them and they still look brand new!
4. BRIGHT LIPSTICK
I’m a huge fan of lipstick. I almost never leave the house without it and always carry one in my purse! My absolute favorite pop of color shade for summer is MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolor in To Matte With Love. I wear it all the time!! I picked it up two year’s ago for my sister’s engagement party and I haven’t stopped wearing it since. This lipstick lasts all day and I can attest to it because I wore it to my sister’s wedding and didn’t even have to reapply it once!! My second favorite lipstick for summer is Sugar Lip from Fresh which also has SPF in it!
5. STRIPE TEE
Stripes are a closet staple. I have an array of colored stripe tops! I love pairing them with denim, especially white denim in the summer, or linen pants and even a cute midi skirt. My summer uniform is mostly a stripe tee + white denim + neutral sandals + straw bag + aviator sunglasses + bright lipstick!! You can’t go wrong with this look!
