I, too, am a Terp

May 5, 2014

In the beginning of April I got an e-mail through the University of Maryland that a student was taking photos of fellow Terps for a capstone project inspired by The Race Card Project and I,too,am Harvard. I was curious and got in touch with Min Namkoong to learn more about her project and participate in it. Below you can read her words about this project and what led her to it:

“Inspired by “I,too, am Harvard” and “The Race Card Project,” I worked on a project as part of the BSOS Global Scholars program at the University of Maryland, College Park. Many minority students face and stubble with the feelings that they do not belong to certain cultures because of their race or ethnicity. Minority groups are, oftentimes, perceived as almost second class citizens in some environments. The University of Maryland is one of the most diverse campuses in the nation. The university itself celebrates and promotes diversity. I was interested in the thoughts of students at UMCP about their experiences regarding their race or ethnicity.”

I am fortunate to be able to participate in Min’s project. I hope more campuses are inspired and take part in this project! Check out the rest of the photos from the project on Tumblr #itooamaterp

Georgetown Cupcake | Free (Not-on-Menu) Cupcake

April 30, 2014

Monday – Chocolate PB Caramel
Tuesday – Vanilla Caramel Hazelnut
Wednesday – Chocolate Ganache Surprise
Thursday – Choc-Dipped Toffee Crunch
Friday – Lemon Coconut
Free Flavors via Twitter
Georgetown Cupcake is possibly one of my favorite places! I will never turn down a GC cupcake – especially when it’s free! I have been saying this to anyone who will listen to me but no one believes me about the free cupcakes. Everyday Georgetown Cupcake announces a Free not-on-menu flavor via twitter and the first 100 people to order it by name at any GC location get the cupcake for free! I had five days of free cupcakes to prove that this is for real. The catch is that you have to be there early because they do run out. I went right around opening (10am-10:30ish) and was able to get my free cupcake. If you live near Georgetown Cupcake and want a special treat every once in a while then check on their Twitter for the free flavor and snag yourself a yummy cupcake! Happy Wednesday!

The White House opened its garden to the public over the weekend for the 2014 Spring Garden Tour. On the tour guests were able to see the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, Rose Garden, South Lawn of the White House, and the White House Kitchen Garden. Tickets were free and distributed on a first come first serve basis starting at 9am. I convinced my lovely girlfriends to get up at 6am on a Saturday and line up at the Ellipse Visitor Pavilion at 8am. We got our tickets for the 10am entrance – yay! Got some coffee beforehand and then made our way to the White House. It was the perfect spring day to walk in the garden and see all the history and beautiful flowers and trees. It was such a lovely experience!

Doggie Wedding

April 22, 2014

On April 12, 2014 Bazi [bride] & Felfel [groom] tied the knot! Bazi’s mom and I have been planning their wedding for a while. Yes it was an arranged marriage but thankfully they have grown to love each other. Being that both their moms are Persian the pups had a traditional Persian wedding ceremony. The ceremony was elegantly organized by the bride’s sweet Aunt Bahar. They celebrated their wedding with Doggie Cupcakes from Sprinkles – Felfel ate more than his fair share. For the humans there was Sprinkles Cupcakes & St. Honore cake from Patisserie Poupon. Call us crazy but there is nothing more perfect than a spring doggie wedding!

Rainbow Starlite

April 18, 2014

Top: The Limited | Jeans: The Limited | Scarf: Haute Hijab | Necklace: BaubleBar |
Shoes: Sole Society | Sunglasses: Ray-Ban | Bag: J.Crew
After the Macy’s Fashion Show my besties and I went to the Tidal Basin area to catch a glimpse of the cherry blossoms at sunset! The views were stunning! The BaubleBar Rainbow Starlite necklace I’m wearing is my new obsession. I built my entire outfit around this necklace. To keep the necklace the center of attention I went with the basics – boyfriend jeans, white blouse, nude heels. The necklace has every color possible in it and I have to stop myself from wearing it every day.

Tulips & Cherry Blossoms

April 14, 2014

Jacket: H&M | Sweater: French Connection | Blouse: The Limited | Jeans: The Limited |
Shoes: J.Crew | Handbag: Coach | Scarf: Hijabee

If you’ve been following me on Instagram [@adayinthelalz] you know that I have been beyond excited to finally be in DC for the Cherry Blossoms. I may have over done it – but oh well! This trip to DC was on Tuesday just when the blossoms were starting to bloom. My friend and I went early in the morning to avoid the crowds and allow me to snap some photos! I have been waiting for months to wear this adorable French Connection Tulip Sweater. My name in Persian means Tulip – therefore anything tulip related is a win in my book! I usually shy away from pink but this sweater had me rethink my rule and I totally embraced it!
