Skin Care // SPF

January 8, 2019

Today’s Skincare topic is SPF!

We’ve all heard the importance of wearing daily sunscreen. A quick summary to recap the importance of SPF – exposure to UVA and UVB rays breaks down the elastin in your skin which causes you to age prematurely and get wrinkles and fine lines. In a nutshell wear sunscreen and your skin will thank you.

Full disclosure I was not serious about SPF until about two years ago. I would only wear it in the summer or on tropical/beach vacations and didn’t think it was necessary to wear every single day. The tinted moisturizer I use has SPF 20 however that was not cutting it. After a stern lecture from my mom on the importance of sunscreen and preventing sun spots, I read up on the importance of wearing SPF 365 days a year. I made the decision to incorporate sunscreen in my daily skin care and thus began the hunt for the perfect sunscreen.

My issue with facial sunscreen was that I never found the right one. The problems that I had were that they all had a weird smell, made me look like a ghost, were greasy, and felt heavy on my skin. After testing many different sunscreens I finally found one that checked all the boxes and that I consistently use every day.

I just came back from a trip to Mexico and applied the Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 every single day when I was at the pool and beach. What sold me on the product was the consistency and how sheer it is. In my opinion the sunscreen is very moisturizing therefore I go sans moisturizer to avoid getting oily in my t-zones.

I recently discovered Glossier Invisible Shield and was eager to try it. This SPF product is a clear water gel formula that is extremely lightweight and doesn’t feel like you are wearing sunscreen. I use the Invisible Shield prior to applying makeup. The formula is amazing and I love that it goes on clear and doesn’t make me to look ghostly white!

While majority of products focus on your face let’s not forget about your lips, they need SPF protection as well. I adore fresh beauty and their skin care products and love the variety of lip treatments with SPF that they carry. The Sugar Lip is extremely moisturizing and a lovely pop of color. Since my name means Tulip I obviously went with the Tulip shade, my namesake, and the lovelies hot pink shade.
