There is something special about arriving in The Bahamas and immediately feeling yourself slow down. For my birthday getaway this year, I stayed at The Ocean Club, A Four Seasons Resort, Bahamas, on Paradise Island—and it was exactly the kind of escape I needed.
From the moment we arrived, The Ocean Club felt peaceful, intimate, and worlds away from everyday life. Between the turquoise water, lush tropical grounds, beautiful pools, and genuinely thoughtful hospitality, the Resort makes it very easy to settle in and simply enjoy where you are.
A Peaceful Retreat on Paradise Island
Originally opened in 1962, The Ocean Club has a timeless sense of glamour while still feeling relaxed and welcoming. The Resort joined the Four Seasons portfolio in 2017, bringing the brand’s signature hospitality to a property already known for its history and iconic setting.
The low-rise buildings are spread across 35 acres of tropical grounds, giving the Resort a private and intimate feeling. Even with other guests around, it never felt crowded or overwhelming.
The beach was easily one of my favorite parts of our stay. The water is the most beautiful shade of turquoise, the sand is incredibly soft, and the beach attendants make it effortless to spend the day by the ocean. It was exactly what I wanted from a birthday trip: beautiful surroundings, warm weather, and time to simply relax.
Three Pools for Three Different Experiences
One of the features that makes The Ocean Club stand out is its three distinctly different pools. Each has its own atmosphere, so guests can choose between an adults-only retreat, an infinity-edge pool overlooking the ocean, or a dedicated family-friendly setting.
The Adults-Only Versailles Pool
The Versailles Pool is the Resort’s adults-only sanctuary, reserved for guests ages 16 and older. Surrounded by palm trees and located near the Versailles Gardens, it has an elegant and secluded atmosphere.
This is the pool to choose when you want a quiet afternoon with a book, a peaceful swim, or simply a place to relax away from the activity of the family areas. We dropped the kids off at the kids club and enjoyed the afternoon at the adult only pool.
The Ocean Pool
The Ocean Pool is the Resort’s signature infinity-edge pool, positioned along the shoreline with beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean. With the water and horizon appearing to blend together, it is easily one of the most picturesque parts of the property.
This pool feels more central and lively while still maintaining the relaxed atmosphere of the Resort. It is also conveniently located near Ocean Blu, making it easy to stop for lunch or enjoy something refreshing without going far from your chair.
The Family Lagoon Pool
Families have their own dedicated space at the Family Lagoon Pool. The lagoon-style pool features a sloping, beach-style entry and a waterfall, making it especially inviting for younger children.
Having a designated family pool allows children to splash and play while parents relax nearby. It also helps preserve the peaceful atmosphere at the adults-only Versailles Pool, giving different types of travelers the space to enjoy their vacation in the way that works best for them.
Between the three pools and the Resort’s white-sand beach, there is no shortage of places to cool off and enjoy the Bahamian sunshine.
The Versailles Gardens and Cloisters
No stay at The Ocean Club would be complete without walking through the Versailles Gardens.
The gardens are one of the most unique parts of the property, with beautiful landscaping, fountains, marble statues, and terraces leading toward the historic 12th-century Augustinian Cloisters. It feels completely different from the beach and pool areas—almost as though you have stepped into a European garden in the middle of Paradise Island.
The walk through the gardens is peaceful at any time of day, but I especially loved visiting when the light was softer. It is a beautiful place to stroll, take photos, and appreciate the history and character that make The Ocean Club unlike other resorts in The Bahamas.
Dining at The Ocean Club
Another highlight of our stay was the variety of dining available throughout the Resort. You can plan a special oceanfront dinner, have a casual lunch beside the pool, or order breakfast to your room when you want a slower start to the day.
DUNE by Jean-Georges
DUNE by Jean-Georges is the Resort’s signature restaurant and one of its most beautiful dining settings. Located above the shoreline, the restaurant offers sweeping ocean views and an internationally inspired menu from Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
The atmosphere feels special without being overly formal, making it a lovely choice for a birthday dinner, romantic evening, or celebratory meal. DUNE also serves breakfast, allowing guests to begin the day with an ocean view.
Ocean Blu
Located beside the Ocean Pool, Ocean Blu offers fresh, grilled Western Caribbean fare with Latin American influences. Its relaxed, open-air setting makes it an easy choice for lunch during a pool or beach day.
By evening, it becomes a beautiful place to watch the sun set while enjoying dinner by the water. I loved having an option that felt casual and convenient without sacrificing the quality of the meal or the view.
Trattoria Versailles
Trattoria Versailles is an Italian-inspired dining experience located beside the adults-only Versailles Pool. The menu features fresh pasta, pizza, antipasti, and other Italian specialties in a lovely open-air setting near the gardens. It offers a completely different atmosphere from the Resort’s oceanfront restaurants and is a wonderful option when you want a leisurely poolside lunch or evening dinner amongst the lush gardens.
Hospitality That Makes a Stay Memorable
As beautiful as The Ocean Club is, what stood out most during my stay was the hospitality. The staff were warm, attentive, and thoughtful throughout our entire visit. Whether we were heading to breakfast, relaxing beside the pool, or spending the day at the beach, there was always someone ready to assist.
The service never felt rehearsed or overly formal, it felt genuine. The team anticipated the little things that would make us more comfortable while still giving us the space to relax and enjoy our time.
Those personal moments of care are what transform a beautiful property into a memorable experience. The team made my birthday getaway feel incredibly special, and their attentiveness was one of the lasting highlights of my stay.
The Perfect Place to Disconnect
The Ocean Club is one of those rare resorts where the property itself truly feels like the destination. You can certainly explore Nassau and the rest of Paradise Island, but you could also spend your entire trip enjoying the beach, three pools, Versailles Gardens, dining, and spa without feeling as though you missed anything.
For travelers coming from Washington, DC, or elsewhere along the East Coast, The Ocean Club offers the feeling of a faraway tropical escape without requiring a complicated travel day. It works equally well for a birthday celebration, family vacation, girls’ getaway, couples’ trip, or simply a few quiet days away from your regular routine.
My stay was the perfect reminder that sometimes the best vacations are the ones where you do less, slow down, and truly appreciate where you are. The Ocean Club gave me exactly that, and it is a Resort I would happily return to.
My stay at The Ocean Club, A Four Seasons Resort, Bahamas was gifted. As always, all opinions are my own.
