A Day In The Lalz

Tropical Vacation Packing Guide

Happy New Year!! I am back from a quick getaway to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! It was a very last-minute trip and I was excited to escape the cold and spend some time having fun in the sun. Today I’m sharing a few of the pieces I packed for my tropical vacation!

As soon as I booked my ticket I made a list of all the things I wanted to pack. Since majority of my summer stuff is packed away, I made a list and went to tackle my closet first. I was able to find a lot of things in my closet and only needed to order a few items for the trip. My packing list included:

Sun Hat

Hats are a must on a beach trip. I have a huge sunhat from Nordstrom I purchased last summer that I love and always take with me on my trip. Thankfully it is completely foldable and doesn’t lose shape and I can easily throw it in my suitcase.

Sunglasses

Sunglasses are my favorite accessories. I wear contacts and always make sure to have sunnies on when I’m in the pool or by the water because water getting into my eye is truly a nuisance! I get my sunglasses from Nordstrom and ASOS for super cheap. I don’t believe in spending a ridiculous amount of money on sunglasses because they get scratched easily, lost, and can snap at any time. The only brand name sunnies I own are Ray-Ban Aviators and Clubmaster which I wear year round.

SPF

Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. It is the most important thing to pack when heading to a tropical destination. I use to be very lax about SPF however now that I’m older and little bit wiser I understand the importance of it. I pack a variety of SPF products for different purposes. For my face I love using Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30. There are many things I love about this product – it’s not greasy, doesn’t smell, and little goes a long way! For a little color on my lips I packed Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Tulip which has SPF 15 and keeps my lips extremely moisturized.

Tote Bag

A giant tote bag is a must for me. This one from Urban Expressions is extremely lightweight and tommy. I was able to fit all my beach/pool essentials, snacks, camera, and everything else. For afternoon/dinner looks I packed this round straw bag and colorful pineapple clutch which were both versatile with all my outfits.

Sandals

I basically lived in my M. Gemi White Treccia sandals. They are super comfortable and the white color goes with all my looks. For the pool I packed my Tory Burch flip flops.

Dresses and Kaftan

I basically live in dresses and kaftan when I’m on a beach destination trip. They are easy, breezy, and comfortable. I got this kaftan from Coolibar which was such an easy piece to wear around the pool and on the beach chasing my nephew. I paired the kaftan dress with leggings since it has two side slits.

Swimwear

I get all of my modest swimwear from Coolibar. They have an amazing collection of rash guards, swim tights, and long-sleeved swim gear. To cover my hair I wear a swim turban cap that is extremely secure and super comfortable!
